Abstract:
The Menghe School of Medicine is among the contemporary traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) regional schools with significant influence. Its formation and origins are closely linked to the geographical environment, transportation, cultural education, and economic conditions of the Menghe region in Jiangnan. It has the characteristics of clear inheritance, outstanding medical expertise, extensive learning, open-mindedness, and academic development, which reflects the formation reasons, main content and academic vision of this regional school. The Menghe School exhibits distinctive academic thought and clinical features, primarily summarized as: a pure, balanced, and mild herbal application style; flexible and wise application of formulas; a pathogenesis rooted diagnostic approach emphasizing the spleen and kidney; an integrative pattern blending Chinese and Western diagnostics; diverse therapeutic techniques; and a unified febrile disease theory reconciling cold and warm pathogenic approaches. Notably, it holds substantial influence on contemporary TCM theory and clinical practice.
